Moxibustion

dreamstime_8837618Moxibustion is the application of burning Mugwort (or Artemsia), a Chinese herb to warm the tissues. It is applied by warming acupuncture needles, by heating points with a moxa stick suspended above the skin or by placing cones on the skin on a protective base.

The therapy is able to stimulate the smooth flow of Qi and blood and warm the meridians to dispel Cold and Dampness from the tissues. It is usually performed as part of an acupuncture and/or bodywork treatment.

What can Moxibustion do?

It increases the circulation of local blood and lymph to aid tissue healing and control inflammation.

It is able to support the immune system and increase resistance to infections.

It relaxes tissue and is good for pain, stiffness, spasms and tension.

It has a calming effect.
